"Glen" Clean-Up Day

"Clean-up Day" in the Glen will be held on Saturday, April 21st in conjunction with Earth Day. There will be coffee & hot chocolate available at the hall from 8:30am till noon where garbage bags and gloves provided by the Town of Halton Hills will be distributed and areas assigned to be "picked".
We take great pride in cleaning up our village after the ravages of winter ... however friendly it might have been.
It is also a great way to meet some of your neighbors.

THE BARBER DYNAMO: A PERSPECTIVE

by

REINHARD FILTER

A remarkable innovation, the Barber Dynamo, was built just outside Georgetown in the late 1800s. This is the first time electricity was transmitted over some distance to power the wheels of industry. The Barber Dynamo - A Perspective is the story of how this came to be, why it was abandoned and what happened to it.

If one were to go to the corner of Armstrong and Sinclair Avenues in Georgetown and venture to the edge of the ravine just opposite that corner...the Barber Dynamo ruins would be visible in the valley on the opposite side of the river.

Local author Reinhard Filter first wrote the story of the Barber Dynamo and by association the Barber Paper Mill, in 1976. After 35 years, a revised and updated version of this story is now available. This soft-cover 8.5x11” book sells for $19.95. Its 62 pages feature 55 photographs, many in colour, along with maps, technical drawings and plans to highlight the Barber Dynamo’s prescient and groundbreaking technology. The book also serves as a guide to the quickly vanishing ruins, which can be accessed by a side-trail of the Bruce Trail.
